Best Ever Suet

Makes approximately 8-10 suet cakes
4 cups lard or Crisco
4 cups crunchy peanut butter
8 cups oatmeal
8 cups cornmeal
2 cups flour

Optional 1-2 dozen crushed up egg shells (As I use eggs, I save the shells. Air dry on a paper towel and storing them in a plastic baggy).

Melt lard or Crisco and peanut butter over medium heat in large cooking pot. Add oatmeal, cornmeal and flour. Stirring until mixed. Remove from heat and stir in crushed eggshells. Put in suet cake molds. I save the containers from previously store bought suet cakes. Allow cakes to cool until solid. Store until needed. I store my suet cakes in the garage. Birds love these suet cakes. This is the best mixture I’ve found for attracting birds.

Eggshell Fun Fact

Eggshells provide calcium to the birds diet. They will also aid in digesting food. Birds need grit in their gizzard to help them digest food. Occasionally you may see birds eating small rocks alongside the road. This is one way to get needed grit. Eggshells are alternative grit.
